Avia Napa, Napa's newest hotel, has notched two important firsts for the city: the first five-story building and the first hotel with a dedicated roof deck. The boutique property, owned by Kansas-based LodgeWorks, opened July 1 and bills itself as a confluence of luxury accommodations and exquisite dining.

The 141 guest rooms are spacious and modern, and come standard with lush beds, crisp linens and Italian-cotton duvets. Bathrooms, lined with eastern white marble, each have walk-in showers; 58 suites also include soaking tubs.

Avia Kitchen changes its menu daily, depending on produce available at local farmers' markets. Executive Chef John Alexander serves free appetizer samples daily from 5-6 p.m.

Perhaps the best part of the new hotel is its second-floor terrace, a guests-only, open-air plaza with an alluring fire pit, hardwood decking, porch swings and comfy loungers. At night, the secluded porticos of this patio are great spots for star-gazing or just cuddling with your partner.

Details: Rates start at $179; through Sept. 1, Avia Napa is offering complimentary upgrades on rooms. Book at www.aviahotels.com/hotels/napa or call (707) 224-3900.
